Ludi Musici

German consort music from the 17th century

BRISK Recorder Quartet Amsterdam + Susanne Braumann – viola da gamba + Bernard Winsemius – organ

Tour to Germany

This programme includes music by Johannn Herman Schein and by Samuel Scheidt, two German composers who specialized in the instrumental genre. Stylized dances and popular melodies show the influence of such English composers as John Dowland and William Brade, who lived in Germany at the beginning of the 17th century. The combination of recorder quartet, viola da gamba and organ is an ideal one to perform works from Venuskränzlein (1609) and Banchetto Musicale (1617) by Schein, and Ludi Musici (1621) and Tabulatura Nova (1624) by Scheidt.

This well-received concert programme can also be heard on CD (GLO 5214).

BRISK made a tour to Germany with this programme in the autumn of 2011.
